If you have an Instagram account you've probably been made aware of some recent changes. Instagram wants to show you posts you care about most and create a better experience by doing so. Basically, if you comment and like someone's posts often, those will most likely be the ones to show up first.
I'll admit that I freaked out for about five minutes after finding out. I'm not a fan of Facebook's algorithm at all and I didn't want to have the same opinion about Instagram. Instagram has been such a wonderful tool to give followers a glimpse into my life and also keep a public photo diary. I love sharing and I love to see into other's lives.
Last week I was told that I have a lot of 'noise' in my head. So yesterday, when so many of you were posting images that asked for followers to turn their notifications on, all I could think about was how much noise that would add into an already noisy life. There's Twitter, Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram, Email, etc. Do we really need another thing to make our phone bing? Another reason to not be present?
If you've ever clicked on the magnifying glass at the bottom of your Instagram screen, you've probably noticed that the images you're seeing fit into your lifestyle. Why? Because Instagram knows what you like! This seems to be exactly what they will implement into our feeds. For example, when I click on the explore option, I see pictures of motherhood, home decor, fitness, and guinea pigs (don't ask..). My husband, for example, sees fitness and cigar pictures.
After all, I usually jump straight to my favorite Instagram accounts anyways instead of scrolling through each and every post. Hopefully the new changes will fix that.
So let's stop freaking out about Instagram, interact with the account we love the most, and keep those notifications off!
